We’re Obsessed With: Target’s New Designer Home Line

John Derian’s lovely hand decoupaged glass trays are one-of-a-kind and run upwards of $400 at tony shops like Washington, DC’s Tiny Jewel Box and Nantucket’s Trillium. And while it’s tough to stomach shelling out $92 for a pencil tray, the intricate and charming paper-under-glass pieces that the New York-based artist creates are crave-able enough to make it seem like a reasonable thing to do. But this month, you can put that justification on hold. For a limited time Derian fans, and those just discovering the designer, can score one of his incredible pieces for under ten bucks.

On September, 14, John Derian for Target will debut, featuring trays, other giftware, stationery and giftwrap sporting the artist’s romantic style: birds, words, symbols, shells, botanicals, etc. The less costly versions of Derian’s trays will be made of melamine with images printed on the reverse side. And, while they won’t be one-offs, the designs are no less stunning. We adore the square bird tray (above) as well as a melamine vase featuring a spare tree on a cream background.

These non-couture cousins are only available for eight weeks, though, and then Derian’s chic little wares turn back into high-priced pumpkins. So we highly recommend you walk, not run to your nearest Target (or to and snap up several of these before they’re gone. Stock up for holiday gifts or hostess presents to have on-hand. Or buy a bunch just for you, simply because you know you can buy 10 for the normal price of one.
