5 Winter Movies We Can't Wait to See

Winter is always a busy time, but it's also family time, and that's where movies come in! This winter, the streamers are delivering solid family fare. Here are our top five new additions to your favorite platforms. We smell a marathon!

The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star (Netflix, November 18)

High School Musical’s Vanessa Hudgens returns once more as numerous characters caught up in royal politics, love, and doppelganger madness.

This is the third year we have seen a new addition to the festive franchise, and with each installment comes a new character for Hudgens to master. Romancing the Star sees Margaret and Stacy team up once more. This time, the duo and latest doppelganger Fiona try to track down a stolen relic. Though the film comes with its fair share of action, the intimate romance storylines are what make this a cozy must-watch for winter.

A Castle for Christmas (Netflix, November 2)

If you are a fan of romantic comedies at Christmas and you're hunkering down for a winter staycation, then A Castle at Christmas might just be the perfect movie for you.

Brooke Shields plays a bestselling author who ventures to the Scottish highlands where she falls in love with the land and a castle—but not the grumpy duke who owns it. Though they butt heads initially, true romantics know things will inevitably turn romantic.

Also starring Cary Elwes and Lee Ross, this film is a lot like popular seasonal '90s movies. So if you want to feel a little nostalgic and enjoy watching two people fall in love, snuggle up!

The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (Amazon Prime, November 13)

This Amazon Prime original is nothing if not completely unique. The film follows the life of painter Louis Wain, who adopts a stray kitten that will come to influence his world-famous paintings of felines for decades to come.

Staring Marvel’s Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy, the quirky tale is an invitation to get under a blanket and enjoy the colorful plot, intricate characters, and of course, lots of cats!

Jungle Cruise (Disney+, November 13)

If there is one film capable of tearing your family away from their phones, it’s Disney’s Jungle Cruise. With enormous A-listers fillings its ranks, Jungle Cruise takes viewers on a wild adventure filled with nature, danger, laughs, and of course, the occasional curse that turns people to stone.

Familiar faces like everyone’s favorite former WWE star The Rock are central to the plot, but many critics say that Emily Blunt really steals the show. Other iconic actors include comedian Jack Whitehall, Black Mirror’s Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings (Disney+, November 12)

This month, your dose of Marvel comes in the form of Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings. As Marvel’s first project with an Asian lead, Shang-Chi broke boundaries and the box office.

Comic book films really do have something for everyone. This one gives us themes of friendship, familial bonds, magic, romance, action, and of course Marvel's signature Easter eggs from other films. The story follows the titular character Shang-Chi who must face an organized crime group he once called family. The movie has earned some pretty rave reviews, with one writer calling it "revolutionary." Shang Chi really is the epitome of family entertainment.
