Free Games for PlayStation and Xbox

There are an excellent variety of free Xbox games and PlayStation games to choose from. Our list will help you find the ones that are the best match for you.

Free Games for PlayStation and Xbox

PlayStation and Xbox games can offer hours of entertainment. Unfortunately, they can also be really pricey to buy. We've put together a list of the best free games to help you get the most out of your gaming console. We've tried to find free PlayStation games that are also free on Xbox, the only exception on the list is Roblox, which you'll only find on the Xbox store.

Rocket League for the whole family

Rocket League is a futuristic sports game. In its simplest form, it's soccer with cars, but really it's so much more than that. Perfect for adults and kids alike. This game offers some good, clean family entertainment without sacrificing fun. The excitement levels are high and this game is sure to get your adrenaline pumping as you race around the tracks trying to score goals. The concept is simple, but the game is actually pretty challenging and will keep even seasoned gamers glued to their screens.

It's free on both the Xbox and PlayStation stores.

Just a word of warning: playing this game might make you want to ramp your (real-life) car around corners or bounce off your neighbors' houses to boost your speed.

Roblox for the kids

Roblox is a great free Xbox game for the kids. Roblox isn't just a game, it's a place where you can make games and play games that other people have made. There's a massive selection, so you'll want to make sure you keep an eye on what your kids are playing.

Top Tip: Roblox's chat feature is disabled for now, but should they choose to reactivate it, you'll need to set up some safety guidelines for your children to make sure they understand the dangers of interacting online.

Halo Infinite: best to play with friends

Halo Infinite is a fantastic multiplayer game. This is one of the best free Xbox games and is aimed at teens and adults. Perfect if you're looking for a game to play with friends. This first-person shooter game is set in the year 2560 and is the latest in the Halo series. It's a game that you can really immerse yourself in and it has excellent visuals, gameplay, open-world design, soundtrack, and story.

Fortnite: make it what you want

Fortnite is a top pick and is free on both the Xbox and Playstation stores. Fortnite has a little bit of everything, which makes it a great pick for a diverse group of friends. You can choose to battle to be the last team standing or switch to creative mode and build the island of your dreams.

There's a really big community of players which means that there will always be people to play with. You can keep it light or take it seriously; it's totally up to you.

Fortnite is an easy game to jump right into and with so many play options, you won't be getting bored anytime soon. If your kids are playing Fortnite, then remember there are parental controls that can help you limit what they can do in the game.

eFootball 2022: best sports game

Looking for a great free sports game? eFootball 2022 might be just what you're looking for. It's available for free on both the PlayStation and Xbox stores. Die-hard football fans might be loyal to the Fifa games, but if you're looking for a free game, then eFootball 2022 is a great option. It doesn't come in far behind Fifa in terms of quality and the price is obviously far better (it's totally free).

Football fans will get a kick (see what we did there?) out of playing as their favorite teams and players. This is a great one for the whole family and can make for a fun interactive evening with friends.

Call of Duty: Warzone: Not for the kids

This massive free-to-play combat arena is the latest call of duty offering. It's violent and messy and definitely not a family-friendly game, but the popularity of Call of Duty endures for good reason. When the game was released, it was downloaded by six million people in the first 24 hours. The game is set in the tropical paradise of the Pacific, so it's really beautiful. Don't be fooled though, it still requires the same strategic thinking that was needed for earlier games.

Looking for more free games?

This is just a little taste of the free games available. Both Xbox and PlayStation offer even more free games for you to choose from. Since they're free, it's really worth giving a bunch of them a try. There's nothing to lose. If you're buying games, always remember to check for discount codes for free Xbox games and PlayStation games that might be on sale.

Can't find any games you like?

If you can't find any games you like on the free lists, you can also consider a subscription service. It works almost like a streaming service (like Netflix or Hulu). Users pay a monthly subscription and get access to a wide range of games. You won't own the games and if you cancel the subscription, you won't have access to them anymore, but the monthly fee is pretty low and the selection is impressive. Xbox calls it a game pass and PlayStation calls it PlayStationPlus. Before you sign up always remember to check for coupons and discount codes.
